Is the Size Right?

Aside from the race issue in the fashion industry, another issue that designers like my self and notably Christian Seranio are combating is the size issue. Making clothes for REAL women. Of Course their are women who are naturally thin and tall but along with that their are women who are also short , thick, curvy, and any mixture of these things. Even women who are naturally small have spoken out about how finding samples to wear to events is challenging. I am speaking of samples because when new collections are released stylists can only pull from runway samples due to the fact that the collection hasn’t or will never go into production.

I myself early in my career fell into the make samples really small boat. To be honest it’s easier to sew for women with no shape. Sewing a straight line can be much easier than sewing curved ones, adding darts, and using more fabrics. In the past 4 years I have worked to incorporate various sizes into my samples and use a variety of models when it comes to race, body type, and size.

We all have work to do and i’m fessing up to my part in it all. Click here to read about my marketing identity crisis of years past.
